John Smith's Second Chesapeake Voyage
July 24 - September 7, 1608

In July 1608, the expedition returned to Jamestown having accomplished much, but Captain Smith knew there was much more of the Chesapeake left to explore. They found many problems at Jamestown upon their return and Captain Smith found himself elected the new president. Smith spent a few days resolving some of the issues that had arisen during his absence then prepared to resume his exploration. The second expedition had a smaller crew of 12 but the shallop was used again.
