#14 Calvert Cliffs
The Middle Western Shore, 1608

Calling the cliffs “Riccard’s Cliffs,” after his mother's maiden name, Smith headed up the Bay along the western shore. He was eager to head north to find the head of the Bay and contact the Massawomeck. He noted several smaller rivers in this area, but did not explore them since there was no sign of habitation and thus no one to answer questions about the area.
