#53 The Landing, Historic St. Mary’s City
St. Marys River, 1608

Yaocomaco Indians probably used a protected, sandy beach area as a landing for their log canoes. This same location was the landing place for Maryland’s settlers in 1634 and it was later used by 17th-, 18th- and 19th-century residents of St. Mary’s City. Today, this place continues to serve as the landing and dock area for St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
