#32 Nause at Night
The Nanticoke River, 1608

John Smith did not write his observations of what happened the night he and his crew visited this Kuskarawaok fishing camp. So we are left to wonder -- what might being going on in these small temporary native houses? Have they just finished cooking their supper of fish at the central outdoors fire and are retiring inside for the night? With a full moon and a successful day fishing behind them, what stories might they be telling each other? Or, are the natives even there? Are they out fishing, using small fires in the bow of their boats to attract fish close to their spears and nets?
